Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos
The DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) emerged from a battle between competing optical formats, finalized in 1996 and launched in Japan, offering superior video/audio quality and storage over VHS. Its US debut in 1997, coupled with falling prices and integration into PlayStation 2 consoles, fueled rapid adoption, eventually replacing VHS for home video by the mid-2000s, ushering in the era of DVD menus, bonus features, and binge-watching before being challenged by Blu-ray and streaming.
